QuickBooks Automatic Updates & Critical Fixes-What’s Your Policy?

A QuickBooks automatic update for QuickBooks Pro 2013, Premier 2013 (all versions or flavors - Contractor, Manufacturing, Professional Services, etc), and Enterprise 13.0 (all versions or flavors), beginning right around June 3, 2013 with the last round of the update being released today, has created more problems than it fixed for many users and 3rd party developers.

Some users said that the automatic update caused QuickBooks to crash more often and the update also caused many 3rd party desktop add-ons to error out when connecting to QuickBooks or crashed QuickBooks when it attempted to connect.

How to Date/Work With a QuickBooks 3rd Party Developer

How to "date" a QuickBooks 3rd party developer may seem to be a silly topic for a blog post; but as I reflect on the last 12 years of being one of those "developers" the more I think that the title is appropriate - because in reality dating is a fair way to describe the relationships between Developers, ProAdvisors and QuickBooks users.

In reality, dating is a fair way to compare this relationship. Let's start with mutual respect. Respect for each other, respect for the client, respect for our various corners. The customer isn't "your" client, just as the customer isn't "their" client - the customer becomes "our" customer and each party has a responsibility to them.

Many ProAdvisors and QuickBooks customers, have been complaining because the standard reply whenever you talk to QuickBooks Support is, "you need to upgrade to QuickBooks Enterprise", as if QuickBooks Enterprise could part the Red Sea, should you need that in your accounting software.
